Frequently Asked Questions
Everything You Want to Know About Our Family Farm and Beef
Beef FAQ
Is Your Beef Hormone Free?
Yes. Our meat is 100% free of any kind of growth hormones or any added hormones.
Do You Treat Your Cattle with Antibiotics?
Never. At Blythe Cattle Co, all meat we sell is 100% antibiotic-free from the very beginning. On the ranch, therapeutic antibiotics are only used in rare, life-saving situations or to treat illness. Any animal that receives antibiotics is removed from our meat program. Once the proper withdrawal period has passed, these animals may be utilized in other ways by local families or friends who understand their history. While treated animals are safe to eat after withdrawal, we want our customers to have complete assurance that every cut of Blythe Cattle Co meat has never received antibiotics in its lifetime.
What is Dry Aging?
Dry aging is a process that makes beef more tender and flavorful. We store our beef in a controlled environment for a period of time, allowing natural enzymes to break down the muscle and intensify the flavor. The result is beef that’s rich, beefy, and perfectly tender—steaks that are a cut above the rest.
How Long Do You Dry Age?
Every piece of our beef is dry-aged for at least 14 days. Because each carcass matures differently, our butcher carefully evaluates each one to decide the ideal moment for butchering.
Why Do You Grain Finish Your Cattle?
We provide a grain-finish option to deliver consistently tender, flavorful, and well-marbled beef. Grain finishing allows us to carefully control the final stage of growth, ensuring each animal receives balanced nutrition that supports healthy weight gain and high-quality meat. This approach results in beef that is mild, rich in flavor, and dependable in texture—qualities many families prefer at the table.
What Grain Do You Feed Your Cattle?
Our cattle are finished on rolled barley, a deliberate choice based on animal health and beef quality.
Rolled barley is a highly digestible grain that provides steady, efficient energy without the extreme starch spikes associated with some other grains. This promotes smoother digestion, better rumen health, and more natural fat development. The result is clean, even marbling and a beef flavor that is rich without being overpowering.
Why Barley Over Other Grains?
Compared to common alternatives like corn:
- Barley ferments more slowly, reducing digestive stress on cattle
- Produces a more balanced fat profile, contributing to tenderness and consistency
- Supports animal comfort and performance, especially during finishing
- Delivers excellent feed efficiency without relying on overly aggressive weight gain
We believe the feed matters just as much as the care. By finishing our cattle with rolled barley, we can confidently stand behind the quality, flavor, and integrity of the beef you’re buying.

What is your Return Policy?
We have a strict no returns and no refunds policy since most of our products are perishable and can not easily be shipped back and forth and we can not accept frozen products back for resale. If you need to return a sweatshirt or apparel, we will exchange for a different size if the customer pays shipping to send the original back to us. This does NOT apply for meats - all meats are NO returns or refunds, no exceptions.
